Commoditisation
The process by which a product loses its differentiation and competes on price alone.
The process by which a differentiated product or technology gradually becomes interchangeable and competes on price alone. In humanoid robotics, this applies to the chassis and the actuators: mass-produced (87% in China in 2025), they lose their distinctive value, while the software layer (foundation models, training pipeline) remains differentiated and captures the value. EN: commoditization.
