Mecha (mecha robot)

Large-scale robot fitted with a cockpit allowing a human pilot to take the controls from inside the machine. It combines mechanical power with direct human agency, unlike autonomous robots or those teleoperated from a distance. The term comes from Japanese science-fiction culture and is now applied to real commercial products (e.g. Unitree GD01).
