LG Corp. and NVIDIA announced on 13 August 2026 the signing of a memorandum of understanding covering robotics, AI factories and mobility. The document was signed at NVIDIA’s headquarters in Santa Clara by Kwang Mo Koo, President and CEO of LG Corp., and Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA. The document announces the public unveiling of a next-generation bipedal humanoid in the first quarter of 2027.

The announced technical specifications of the humanoid

  • Embedded computing: NVIDIA Jetson Thor.
  • Robotic foundation model: NVIDIA Isaac GR00T.
  • Safety: the NVIDIA Halos for Robotics stack must be integrated into the machine.
  • Sensors: LG Innotek.
  • Battery cells: LG Energy Solution.

On the two hardware aspects documented by the announcement — perception and energy — the group relies on its own subsidiaries, and on NVIDIA for embedded computing, the robotic foundation model and the safety layer.

AI factories, wheeled robots and automotive

The memorandum of understanding goes beyond the humanoid alone and sets out several projects, three of which are dated:

  • LG CLOiD wheeled robots being tested in 2026 on LG Electronics’ washing-machine production line in Tennessee.
  • Reference AI factory site based on the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform, planned for the first half of 2027.
  • 80-megawatt (80 MW) AI factory in Cheonan (Chungcheongnam-do), targeted for the first half of 2028.
  • High-performance computing platform for AI-defined vehicles, based on NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion, with no announced deadline.

The CLOiD robots are wheeled platforms, distinct from the biped expected in 2027: these are the ones arriving first on a real production line, in the testing phase. The machine closest to a workshop is therefore not the one carrying the announcement.

A memorandum of understanding announces milestones; it does not commit to them. The entire timeline — from the testing of wheeled robots in 2026 to the biped in Q1 2027, up to Cheonan in 2028 — traces back to the joint LG–NVIDIA press release, the only source at this stage: it serves as an advertiser’s roadmap, not as an order book.
