Folding laundry : three domestic robotics start-ups — Figure AI, Sunday Robotics and Weave Robotics — have unveiled robots in recent months that take it on. Weave Robotics, for its part, has a public price : the Isaac 1 sells for 7 999 dollars outright, and its first deliveries are announced for the end of 2026, in California.
How much does it cost ?
Two ways in, and two lines that get added on :

- or 449 dollars a month on a subscription plan — the length of the commitment is not disclosed
- 250 dollars refundable deposit to pre-order
- 99 dollars a month for an optional service subscription, added to the purchase price.

Is it really the robot deciding ?
Not always, and Weave Robotics says so in black and white : the Isaac 1 operates autonomously by default, but it can receive teleoperation assistance when it needs it. In plain terms, when the machine stalls, a remote human operator can take over. That’s no small detail : it’s the difference between an independent machine and a supervised one.
Where does the technology stand ?
Manipulating deformable objects — a garment, a sheet, anything without a fixed shape — is described in the sector as a technical « holy grail ». And it shows. Folding a single garment can still take several minutes, an unfamiliar garment can stop the machine dead, and nobody knows how it performs in a real home, for want of deployments. At this stage, these robots have been unveiled : demonstrations, not machines installed in people’s homes.
The crux of the matter is gesture data, the kind that doesn’t exist on the internet. Sunday Robotics trains its models on human movements captured by 200-dollar sensor gloves that replicate its robots' hands. When is it coming ?
Sunday Robotics is due to install its Memo robot in private homes in the autumn of 2026, through a beta programme : a trial with a first set of households. Weave and 1X are announcing their first customer deliveries by the end of the year. The first Isaac 1 units should go out in California, ahead of wider American availability during 2027. Nothing is said about availability outside the United States.
Two precedents call for caution, again according to Business Insider : the Japanese company behind the Laundroid, sold for 16 000 dollars, went bankrupt in 2019, and FoldiMate, which resurfaced several times at CES in the late 2010s, never delivered a product.
What if you’d rather tinker ?
There is another route, out in the open : Sourccey, from the American start-up Vulcan Robotics, founded by Nick Maselli. Mechanics, electronics and software are published on GitHub, the hardware under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 open licence, printing files included (Interesting Engineering). The beast stands 1 030 mm tall for 15.88 kg, rolls on four Mecanum wheels — wheels that let it dart in any direction, including sideways — and carries a Raspberry Pi 5, a nano-computer the size of a bank card, plus a 360° 2D LiDAR, a laser rangefinder that maps the room. It ships with four folding micro-models already trained (T-shirts, shorts, jeans or trousers, long shirts) — but mind what that means : Sourccey is piloted remotely, those models are replayed under supervision, and its maker only places autonomy with minimal human intervention at the start of 2027.
In other words, Sourccey is not autonomous : it is teleoperated. You pilot it with a pair of master arms — a scaled-down copy of its arms, worked by hand — or with an Oculus Quest headset. You record those demonstrations, then train a control model on top, the one that will replay the gesture. The in-house roadmap pushes full autonomy on basic household tasks out to 2028 : that’s the maker’s word, nobody has cross-checked it. On timing, Vulcan Robotics announces the code opening in August 2026 and the first deliveries in September 2026 — but no price has been published to date (18 August 2026), with the shop and the documentation still marked « Coming Soon » (« bientôt disponible ») on the maker’s website.
