Scaling up (scale-up)

The process by which a robotics technology moves from demonstration to volume industrial deployment.

The ability of a technology or an industrial player to increase its production and deployment volumes while maintaining quality and operational relevance. In humanoid robotics, it refers to the critical leap between laboratory demonstration and mass industrial deployment, which presupposes maturity in costs, supply chain and reliability. A key term to distinguish from simple mass production (the result achieved): scaling up refers to the process, or the ability to get there. In English: scaling, scale-up.
